Manpreet Monica Singh: Made History by Becoming First Sikh Judge in US

Manpreet Monica Singh, an Indian origin Sikh, becomes the first Sikh judge in the US. Singh was sworn in on Friday, January 6 as a Harris County Civil Court judge at Law No. 4 in Texas. A trial lawyer for more than twenty years, Ms Singh, was born and raised in Houston and now lives in Bellaire with her husband and two children.

She remains involved with many civil rights organisations at the local, state and national levels and handled over 100 cases. The state's first South Asian judge, Indian-American Ravi Sandill called it a big moment for the Sikh community. He also called Singh as ‘ambassador for all women of colour’

Elated after her achievement Singh posted on Facebook- “Thank you to everyone for making this a historic moment, because there will be a judiciary that includes countless Sikh people and other minorities. I'm ready to put my 2 decades of experience to good use.”
